Dripping Springs – EV Road Rally and Scavenger Hunt
Grab a friend and spend a Sunday morning on some of the prettiest back roads in the Hill Country. AustinEV is running a free road rally and scavenger hunt from Dripping Springs to Johnson City, and you don’t need to own an EV to come along — if you don’t have one, we’ll put you on a team with someone who does.
When: Sunday, October 4, 2026. Meet at 10:00 a.m.
Start: Tesla Superchargers, 13810 Sawyer Ranch Rd (behind the Circle K), Dripping Springs, TX 78620
Finish: lunch together at a restaurant in Johnson City

How it works
Teams set out from the Superchargers in Dripping Springs and follow a scenic, narrow, twisty route toward Johnson City. This isn’t a race. Along the way you watch for landmarks and answer observation questions, the sort that go “what color is the house on the corner of 5th and Main?” The team that pays the closest attention wins bragging rights. Scoring at our last rally came down to a single point, so every answer counts.
Three ways to join in
Drive. Bring your EV and take the wheel for the morning.
Navigate. Ride shotgun, work the clue sheet, and keep your team on track.
Just come along. No clue sheet, no job, no pressure. Take in the views, and spend a couple of hours riding in somebody’s EV with the person who owns it sitting right there. Ask them anything you’ve been wondering.
Pick whichever sounds like your kind of Sunday. If you’d rather not be responsible for anyone’s score, the third option is a perfectly good way to do this — and if you’re still working out whether an EV suits you, it’s the best seat in the house.
Plan on the morning plus lunch, wrapping up in the early afternoon.
Don’t have an EV? That’s the best reason to come.
Every car on the route is electric, but that’s no reason to sit this one out. If you’ve been curious about EVs and don’t own one yet, sign up on your own and we’ll put you on a team with an owner. You’ll spend the morning in the car you’ve been reading about, on real roads, sitting next to the person who actually lives with it — what it costs to charge, what the range really is in August, what they’d buy differently. Ask them anything. It’s a couple of hours with an owner and no salesperson anywhere in sight.
Same goes if you own an EV and want to drive but don’t have anyone to bring. Sign up solo and we’ll match you up.
A note on charging
The start has eight Tesla Superchargers, up to 250 kW, and there are more chargers at the Lowe’s Market near our destination in Johnson City. Both are available around the clock, so you can top up before you set out or before you head home.
Bring your curiosity, a sharp-eyed navigator, and an appetite. Full writeup:
